These nine amazing books start with this one:
With her gift of weaving silk thread and creating light, Sandry is brought to the Winding Circle community. There she meets Briar, a former thief who has a way with plants; Daja, an outcast gifted at metalcraft; and Tris, whose connection with the weather unsettles everyone, including herself. At Winding Circle, the four misfits are taught how to use their magic – and to trust one another. But then disaster strikes their new home. Can Sandry weave together four kinds of magical power and save herself, her friends, and the one place where they’ve ever been accepted?
My rating: 5/5 stars
Wow! What a series! It follows the four main characters as they grow from kids who don’t even know they have magic into adults starting out their lives.
The magic system is enchanting, but even the fantastic world building pales in comparison to the characters themselves. These are great reads for any age, and it’s the kind of story you never want to leave. And best of all, the cast is diverse–and there are even queer characters! In a children’s series!
I’d been meaning to read this for ages, and I’m glad I finally did.
