2/100 Books: CHAMELEON

CHAMELEON by K. T. Hanna

What the heck is it about? Here’s the blurb from Goodreads:

After Sai’s newly awoken psionic power accidentally destroys her apartment complex, she’s thrown into an intensive training program. The only grades are pass or die.

Surviving means proving her continued existence isn’t a mistake–a task her new mentor, Bastian, takes personally. Her abilities place her in the GNW Enforcer division, which partners her with Domino 12, who is eerily human for an alien-parasite and psionic hybrid. When her assassination duties are revealed, Sai understands the real reason for her training.

On a mission to dispatch a dangerous Exiled scientist, she uncovers truths she never thought possible. Sai is unsure who to trust as her next mission might be her last, and a double agent seems to be manipulating both sides.

My rating: 4/5 stars

It’s surprisingly refreshing to read a post-apocalyptic dystopian novel where the catastrophe that destabilized civilization wasn’t man-made. In the world of CHAMELEON, meteors tore apart the ozone and brought alien parasites with them.

It’s also great to see a sci-fi book with a WOC lead, and (this will become a trend for my reviews) no forced romantic subplot!

It’s a fast read with an engaging, if typical, sci-fi plot. The writing is solid but didn’t blow me away. The characters are what really hooked me and got me invested in the narrative.

If you’re looking for sci-fi that’s fresh and not full of boring straight white dudes, check this one out!
